We all come into this world as curious human beings. It is this curiosity that propels us onto the cycle of learning. Your reinforcement and shared joy about your child's exploration will encourage him/her to participate in this cycle of learning. Our philosophy at Marcie and Me is that you are an essential part of this learning process.
The following was taken from an article written by Dr. Bruce D. Perry in the April/May 2001 issue of "Parent and Child" Magazine:
Self-Esteem
Curiosity results in Exploration
Exploration results in Discovery
Discovery results in Pleasure
Pleasure results in Repetition
Repetition results in Mastery
Mastery results in New Skills
New Skills lead to Confidence
Confidence contributes to Self-Esteem
Self-Esteem increases Sense of Security
Security results in more Exploration
At Marcie and Me, I provide the setting for this cycle of learning to happen by creating an intriguing environment for the children to explore. However, your role is critical in this learning process. Your child will respond to your active participation in his/her play, and your positive reinforcement to his/hers explorations. I get to observe this learning taking place in front of my eyes on a daily basis.
How lucky am I !
